YORK, PA – March 12, 2018 - If management thinks the cost of staying with current content development work methods is free, think again. Suzanne Mescan of Vasont Systems will discuss how staying with the status quo can cost a company significant money in “The Cost of Doing Nothing.” She will deliver this presentation at two chapter conferences of the Society for Technical Communication (STC): STC Rochester’s Spectrum Conference on March 26, 2018 in Rochester, NY and STC Philadelphia’s Conduit Conference on April 7, 2018 in Willow Grove, PA.
Companies that want to deliver content to multiple channels (e.g., websites, mobile apps, PDFs, and more), and often in many languages, need easier ways to create, organize, translate, and publish content. Many organizations still struggle to accomplish this due to incompatible file formats generated from the use of many disparate tools, quality issues created from copying-and-pasting content, and disorganized content that lacks a central storage area.
Content development methods have gone through a significant paradigm shift over the last two decades to solve these problems. Component content management systems and structured content development processes provide easier ways to deliver multilingual content to multiple channels. However, many companies resist the investment needed to move to the new paradigm and believe that staying with current methods is sufficient.
In her presentation, Suzanne Mescan will discuss what the cost of staying with older methods for content development is costing a company. She will show how to calculate the cost of doing nothing, or continuing to use the same ineffective processes, and how it negatively affects a company’s financial statements long-term.
